World AIDS DayBack to Events
This year’s World’s AIDs Day recognition will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 beginning at 6:00 pm at the First Metropolitan Community Church, located at 156 South Kansas in Wichita. Dr. Donna Sweet will be the keynote speaker who will give an update on the state of health care for those infected with the HIV virus. Dr Sweet has been recognized world-wide for her dedication, passion and expertise in providing healthcare to those living with HIV and AIDS. Additionally, a person living with HIV will be sharing a personal perspective on the disease.
The evening’s program will also include music by several local artists and the First MCC choir. There will be a reading of the names of those who have succumbed to the disease followed by a candlelight vigil. Informational display tables from community agencies and refreshments will conclude the event.
This event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring donations for the First MCC’s food pantry.
This event is a joint venture of KU Midtown Clinic, Sedgwick County Health Department, The First MCC, Positive Directions, Hunter Health Clinic, WSU’s That Gay Group and Kansas Aids and Education Teaching Center (KAETC).
